Overview
The Orange Pi Zero is an open-source single-board computer that packs a surprising amount of power into a tiny $48\text{mm} \times 46\text{mm}$ footprint. Powered by the Allwinner H2+ Quad-core Cortex-A7 processor and equipped with 512MB of DDR3 RAM, it is significantly more capable than standard microcontrollers. Unlike other “Zero” boards, this one features a dedicated 10/100 Ethernet port, making it the perfect low-cost choice for network-heavy applications like a private VPN, a home automation hub (Home Assistant), or a network-attached storage (NAS) starter.
Key Features
Quad-Core Performance: Runs full Linux distributions (Armbian, Ubuntu, Debian) and even Android 4.4.
Dual Connectivity: Onboard 10/100Mbps Ethernet AND 802.11 b/g/n WiFi for flexible networking.
Expansion Ready: Features a 26-pin header compatible with Raspberry Pi B+ and a 13-pin function header (USB 2.0, TV out, Audio).
Ultra-Compact: Small enough to be hidden inside a wall socket or a tiny 3D-printed case.
Versatile Power: Can be powered via the Micro-USB port or through the 5V power pins.
