The TSOP1838 is a miniaturized infrared receiver for infrared remote control systems. Inside its epoxy package, it houses both a PIN diode and a preamplifier tuned specifically to a 38kHz carrier frequency. It filters out ambient light and electrical interference from fluorescent lamps, outputting a clean digital pulse train that microcontrollers can easily decode using libraries like IRremote.
