Overview

The 5mm LDR (Light Dependent Resistor), often called a photoresistor, is a light-controlled variable resistor. The resistance of this component decreases as the light intensity hitting it increases. In total darkness, it acts like an open circuit (mega-ohms), but under bright light, its resistance drops to just a few hundred ohms. This makes it incredibly easy to use with an Arduino or any analog circuit to trigger actions based on ambient light levels.

Key Features

  • High Sensitivity: Quickly reacts to subtle changes in light levels.

  • Compact 5mm Size: Easily fits into breadboards, PCBs, and tight enclosures.

  • Analog Simplicity: Can be used with a simple voltage divider circuit to get an analog reading on any microcontroller.

  • Durable & Reliable: Epoxy encapsulated for long-term stability in various environments.

  • Low Cost: The most affordable way to add light sensing to any student or hobbyist project.
